Home Plans AUDIT (for a planned house)

Minimize

Background

A home plans audit is an evaluation of a house’s projected energy use from house plans, blueprints, etc.   The goal is to find the most cost-effective combination of energy-efficient features to reduce future energy use by up to 75% while enhancing the house’s value and durability.  Consequently, a home plans audit benefits the future home owner.

The Green Home Advantage, LLC (TGHA) provides home plans energy audits for those who plan to build a home. The ideal time to begin a home plans energy audit is in the concept phase when you still have maximum flexibility to consider a wide range of energy-efficient options suitable for our hot-humid climate in northern Louisiana. As the planning progresses, TGHA uses specially-designed software to build a computer model of your house plans or blueprints. We then manipulate this model to find the most cost-effective adjustments to minimize future energy bills.

An audit for a planned new house has little relation to a rating for the same house. In short, an audit does NOT require a rating and a rating does NOT require an audit. With this in mind, the homeowner should require their builder to get an energy RATING. This ensures that the completed house will be inspected to verify and document the quality and workmanship of the energy efficient features. However, the builder will still be the one who gets the $2,000 Federal tax credit!  For details, please see Home Plans RATING.
